It's a pleasure to be in touch with you about the creation of what i believe will be a really great dance ritual for Ignite. Ive been able to speak to most of you over the phone and i truly appreciate your enthusiasm.
I would be honored if you are able to dance with me at this event!
If you are not available to perform with us on the date of the event, no problem. Join us for the creation of this dance. This will be like a free women's dance circle for the next six weeks!

Ignite
Saturday, May 14th

Ignite is a coming together of all different artists and art forms. each Ignite event is a fundraiser benefiting various arts organizations. The art in this event will look like this: fine art displayed throughout the venue; paintings and photography by various SF artists. The space will be decked out with beautiful fabrics and lights and soft places to relax and chill. There will be an area or two allotted to dance performances as well and a dance floor with djs and nice dance and ambient music. There will be acoustical musical performances of all types. This event will be a plethora of art and fun and ritual and sound!
This is a great opportunity to give. This is a great opportunity to help create community. This is a great opportunity to promote your self or your business by meeting new people.
The Dance Ritual
The dance ritual will be a short (3-5minutes) high impact ritual/dance performance. We will transition between flowing feminine movements to really fierce earth pounding dance.
If you know of any women who might be interested please let me know; some knowledge of afro-Brazilian and/or African dance would be a plus, but we can use anyone who has dance experience of any kind.
My Experience
In NY i co-founded ShaktiSpirit; a womens' ritual dance performance group. We performed in NY and internationally at theaters, rituals, and even nightclubs and big dance parties--bringing ritual to the dance floor. I acted as artistic director: choreographer, costume design, makeup...
The Rehearsals
PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP WHICH REHEARSAL TIME SLOTS (LISTED BELOW) WORK FOR YOU.
For dance rituals I like to co-create the choreography with ALL of the women involved, even women with little dance experience (in fact sometimes it is the women with the least training that come up with the most authentically energetic spirit-inspired movement)
The first half of the each rehearsal:
For each rehearsal we will cast a circle and set an intention, go into a deep meditative state/trance state and explore the movement that is being channeled by our bodies.
The second half of each rehearsal:
We then come together and take turns teaching each other around 32 counts (we will discuss/explain this in our first meeting) of the highlights of the dance you were creating in the first half of rehearsal.
NOTE: some of the rehearsals we will be learning traditional African dance movements. these are already sacred movements, so we will spend less time going into meditation.
To perform movement that has been co-created in a sacred space is very powerful. This whole experience will be very opening for all of us on many different levels. I'm excited!
We can also use the Vara Healing Center in Albany!
